ANA Summer Seminar - The Business of Making Medals in the Early U.S. Mint

June 23-26, 2024 - Colorado Springs, CO

The Business of Making Medals in the Early U.S. Mint

Congress never authorized the striking of medals as a function of the United States Mint. This seminar reviews the history of how medals came to be made at the mint and how this function came to be operated essentially as a private business—a business that ran fairly smoothly in its earliest days but in time became something of an embarrassment that led to the replacement of the mint director and the firing of the chief coiner.

Instructors: Neil Musante and David Menchell (ANA district representative, exhibit judge and award-winning exhibitor).
